In Minuet, a company or contact doesn't attach to a technology directly. The Marketing Target is the link, and it usually carries a company, a contact, or both. FirstIgnite writes those targets straight into Minuet, so the prospecting step and the CRM entry are the same action.
There are four ways to start, and three of them end on the same form.
Before you start: a team owner or admin must enable CRM panel and Push marketing targets in FirstIgnite under Minuet Settings (app.firstignite.com/inteum/settings). To create new Minuet records along the way (path two), Send organizations & contacts must be on as well. Your Minuet administrator also needs the Marketing Target Status managed list populated, or the status dropdown here is empty. See What each Minuet feature needs, and who can turn it on.
Prefer to watch? Here's a short video on enabling the Minuet CRM endpoints in FirstIgnite. It has no audio.
For what the marketing panel shows and how it relates to Marketing Projects, see Working with Marketing Projects and Targets. Prefer a PDF? The same four paths are in Creating marketing targets in FirstIgnite, attached at the bottom of this article.
The four paths
| Start from | Focus | Use it when |
One | The technology, on a project's Minuet Marketing tab | Locked to that technology | Any company in the project, suggested or not |
Two | Not in Minuet yet | Whichever path you started on | FirstIgnite can't find the company or contact in Minuet |
Three | Suggestions, from the same tab | Locked to that technology | You want a head start from the companies FirstIgnite has already ranked |
Four | A person, from their Minuet badge | You choose: Technology, Marketing project or Patent | You're already working a contact and want to pick the anchor yourself |
True on every path:
A contact is optional. A company-only target is valid. Add the person later if you don't have one yet.
Status and priority are your lists. They come from your Minuet managed lists, not from a set FirstIgnite defines.
Written on create. The target lands in Minuet as you create it and appears in the list right away, with a View in Minuet link to the full record.
The two things people get stuck on
The company field is a gate. Nothing below it appears until you pick a company, so a half-empty panel usually means that step is still open.
Add target on a suggestion opens the form. It does not create the target. You still choose Create target to finish.
Path one: from the technology
The main path. Use it for any company in the project, whether or not FirstIgnite suggested it.
The Minuet Marketing tab on a project, with the linked technology at the top and the Add marketing target button
Open the project and go to the Minuet Marketing tab. The linked technology sits at the top.
Choose Add marketing target.
Focus is already filled and locked to that technology.
Pick the Company. This is the required step.
Optionally pick a Contact. The list holds people at the company you just chose.
Set In or out, Status, Priority and a Note. All optional.
Choose Create target.
The Create marketing target panel with the focus locked to the technology, a company and contact chosen, and status and priority set
Good to know:
The company search covers companies already in that project. If the one you want is missing, add it on the project's Companies tab first, then come back.
Until you pick a company, FirstIgnite hides the contact field, the rest of the form and the Create button. A prompt at the bottom points back up to it.
An empty Status or Priority dropdown means a Minuet admin hasn't filled that managed list in yet. That's a Minuet step, not a FirstIgnite one.
If Create target stays greyed out and the hint says to finish resolving the contact, remove the contact. It's optional, and the target will go without it.
Path two: when they're not in Minuet yet
Pick a company or contact FirstIgnite can't find in Minuet and the Reconcile identity panel opens on its own. You aren't stuck, and you don't have to leave for Minuet.
The Reconcile identity panel showing no Minuet match, a three-step plan to link the company, create the contact and link it, and editable contact fields
Pick the company or contact as usual. FirstIgnite checks Minuet.
With no confident match, the Reconcile identity panel opens.
Search Minuet by name, email or company. Found them? Choose Link to this contact.
Genuinely new? Use Create in Minuet. Name, title and department are pre-filled from what FirstIgnite knows.
Review and edit the fields, then choose Create & Link.
You land back on the target form with them filled in. Finish it and choose Create target.
Reconciling does not create a marketing target. The panel says so itself: "No Marketing Target is created here — identity linking only." If you reconcile from a person's profile rather than from inside the target form, creating the target is still a separate step.
Good to know:
Creating new records in Minuet needs Send organizations & contacts switched on by an admin. Without it you can still link to records already in Minuet.
Minuet's API has no delete, so read the drafted fields before you commit.
"We couldn't confirm this in Minuet yet" means the check didn't come back. Use Retry, or Choose another.
For how matching and linking work in general, see Matching and adding contacts and companies in Minuet CRM.
Path three: from suggested companies
A shortcut to the companies FirstIgnite has already scored against the technology. It gives you a head start, and you can still add any other company yourself.
The Suggested from your top companies panel, one card per company with a match score, a Why link, up to three contacts and a Company only row, each with its own Add target button
From the Minuet Marketing tab, choose Suggest from FI Top Companies. You get one card per company with its match score and a Why link for the reasoning. Under each, up to three contacts plus a Company only row. Every row has its own Add target button.
What the buttons actually do. Add target opens the target form with that company and contact filled in. It does not create the target by itself. You still choose Create target to finish, so clicking three Add target buttons in a row creates nothing.
Good to know:
Suggestions show up to the five highest-scoring companies, with up to three contacts each. Scroll the panel for the companies below the first.
Neither count limits how many targets you can create. For any other company, use Add marketing target and search for it.
Only companies FirstIgnite has scored for this technology appear here. An empty list usually means the project hasn't had an Autopilot run yet.
Choose Company only to create a target without naming a person.
Path four: from a person
Start from someone you're already working and choose what to anchor the target to. This is the only path where you pick the focus yourself.
The Minuet summary for a linked contact, with the Create marketing target action at the bottom
Open the person and choose their Minuet badge, the pill that reads In Minuet or Linked on their profile.
Choose Create marketing target.
Pick the Focus: a technology, a marketing project or a patent.
Set In or out, Status, Priority and a Note.
Choose Create target.
The New marketing target panel opened from a linked contact, with a focus selector offering Technology, Marketing project or Patent
Good to know:
The action shows on a person already linked to Minuet. If they aren't linked yet, link them first and it appears.
When you're working inside a project, the focus defaults to that project's linked technology. Change it if you want a different anchor.
Anchoring to a marketing project? FirstIgnite suggests the recent ones for that technology so you aren't hunting for an ID.
A padlock on the action means your team hasn't enabled Push marketing targets. An owner or admin turns it on under Minuet Settings in FirstIgnite.
From the technology panel the focus is locked instead, because the technology is already the context.
Quick answers
What you see | What it means |
The panel looks empty apart from a company search | You haven't picked a company yet. The contact field, the rest of the form and the Create button appear once you do |
The company you want isn't in the search | The search covers companies already in that project. Add it on the project's Companies tab, then reopen the form |
You clicked Add target on a suggestion and nothing was created | That button opens the form with the company and contact filled in. Choose Create target to finish |
Status or Priority is an empty dropdown | Those read from your Minuet managed lists. A Minuet admin needs to populate the list once |
Create target is greyed out | Usually a contact still resolving. Remove the contact and create the target without it, or wait for the check to finish |
The create action has a padlock on it | Push marketing targets is off for your team. An owner or admin enables it under Minuet Settings |
What an admin needs to switch on
Three operations, each switched on separately by a team owner or admin under Minuet Settings in FirstIgnite:
CRM panel, to see any of this.
Push marketing targets, to create targets. All four paths need it.
Send organizations & contacts, the extra one for creating new Minuet records, as in path two.
If the connected credentials are missing an endpoint an operation needs, FirstIgnite names the ones it can't reach. See Minuet API endpoints required by FirstIgnite.
If something isn't working, see Troubleshooting the Minuet integration.
