Autopilot: what it is and how it works

Autopilot turns a description of your technology into matched companies, people to contact, market reports, and a summary, saved as a project.

Autopilot gives you a starting point for outreach on a technology. Describe the technology, or upload documents about it, and Autopilot finds companies that are a positive fit, the people to contact at each one, applicable markets to enter into it and a one-page summary of the technology. Everything it finds is saved as a project you can come back to, share, and export.

What a run gives you

  • Companies. Up to 30 of the best-matching companies, ranked, each with the reasons it matched.

  • People. 2–3 contacts at each company to start with. You can add more people afterwards.

  • Market reports. Around six markets where the technology is applicable, with their size, growth, and major players.

  • Summary. A plain-language summary of the technology.

Two targeting modes

You choose a Targeting Mode at the top of the launch form.

  • Research & Partnerships looks for innovation, R&D, and technology leaders at companies that could license or partner on a technology.

  • Career Services looks for HR, recruiting, and talent acquisition contacts at companies that suit your students or graduates. You describe the student's academic background, skills, and career goals instead of a technology. Results include a Job Openings tab instead of market reports and a summary.

How a run works

Each launch is a single run, not a search that keeps running in the background. Autopilot reads your input, searches for candidate companies, scores how well each one fits, and then finds contacts at the best ones.

A run takes a few minutes. You don't have to wait on the page. Each run is saved as a project under My Projects, so you can open it again at any time. Contacts can keep arriving for a little while after the companies appear (these take the longest to load). A banner says Autopilot is still running until they're done.

Credits

  • Contacts' email addresses aren't revealed automatically. Revealing one uses an email credit. See Understanding Email Credits.

  • If you run out of email credits, contact your Customer Success Manager.

Where to find it

In the left sidebar, under Projects, choose Autopilot to start a run. Your past runs are under My Projects in the same section.

If your institution uses Minuet, you can also run Autopilot from a technology record in Minuet, using the Prospecting Agent tab.
